Description
Ruth's Roots Seed Library by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 342 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022). This photograph is a vertical format image.
This photograph was taken in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi (USA) at Ruth's Roots, a community garden.
The cabinet shown in this image is called the Seed Library and contains flower, fruit and vegetable seeds which are left by residents and local businesses. People can take seeds from this cabinet and plant them in their own gardens. It's hoped that in return residents who have extra seeds after planting their own gardens will leave those seeds here for others to plant.
This community garden was named after the late Ruth Thompson and is located at the former location of Ruth's Cakery. The land was donated by Jim Thompson.
There is a chicken coop, butterfly house, rabbit enclosure, koi pond, stone chess board, blessing box and adult and children's lending libraries as well as several other attractions.
Garden vegetables and herbs are planted in raised beds. Eggs are donated to a local non-profit cafe.
The garden is open 24/7 and has been visited by people from all over the United States as well as several different countries.
