People love seashells. There are seashells and seashell decor sold in all beach side gift shops. Here we have a fun image, perfect for that seashell lover or even for your camping enthusiast. A seashell mobile home is parked along the Jourdan River in Hancock County, Mississippi (USA).
Seashells are homes for mollusks. The mollusk crafts it's own shell from a variety of proteins and calcium carbonate. That shell becomes their home for their lifetime. As the mollusk moves around the sea, so does the shell, making the shell a mobile home.
As mollusks grow so does their shell. It expands a little day by day as the mollusk gets bigger.
Hermit crabs are not mollusk but they, too, use seashells as their home. Because they don't make their own shells they have to wait for a mollusk to die and then claim that shell as their home. They are not choosey about the type of shell to use. If it fits they claim it.
Shells come in different sizes, shapes and colors and each of those things have engineering or defensive purposes.
