Description
Foremast And Rigging On Nina by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 190 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
This photograph was taken on the reproduction caravel ship Nina, one of the three ships that Christopher Columbus sailed to the Western Hemisphere. It was built in Brazil in 1991.
You are looking up at a fraction of the rigging needed for the foremast. The ships flag as well as the American flag can also be seen.
All of these pulleys, ropes, cables and flags are viewed against a blue summer sky.
There is also a replica of the Pinta and the two reproduction ships sail to ports in 30-40 different locations around the United States. The ships travel the Gulf Coast, the East Coast, the Great Lakes, and the Midwestern River System.
You can tour these ships and even volunteer as a crew member. Their schedule is posted on their web site. Schedules can change slightly depending on weather conditions.

It's so interesting to see some of the pulleys and ropes necessary to sail such a ship backed by the brilliant blue sky. Well done, Kathy!
