Description
Mast Trio On Pinta by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 198 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022). This is a vertical image.
This photograph was taken on the reproduction ship Pinta, one of the three ships that Christopher Columbus sailed to the Western Hemisphere. It was built in Brazil and launched in 2005.
There are three masts total on this sailing vessel. This view shows all three of Pinta's masts and their rigging. Look closely and you will also see several flags.
Pinta is a caravel type ship used mainly in the 15th and 16th Century. They were highly-maneuverable, fast and were able navigate shallow water but did not hold as much cargo as other types of ships of that era.
There is also a replica of the Nina, a smaller caravel and the two reproduction ships sail to ports in 30-40 different locations around the United States. The ships travel the Gulf Coast, the East Coast, the Great Lakes, and the Midwestern River System. Pinta is even available for private parties and charters.
You can tour these ships and even volunteer as a crew member. Their schedule is posted on their web site.

I love this series of this old ship!
Kathy K McClellan replied:
It was fascinating touring both Nina and Pinta and talking to Nina's captain and a crew member on Pinta.
