Description
Pinta's Main Sail Rigging by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 199 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022). This is a vertical image.
Pinta (AKA The Santa Clare) and Nina are reproductions of two of the three ships that Christopher Columbus sailed from Spain when he was exploring and discovering North America.
Both of these historically correct replicas of 15th Century Caravel ships were moored in the harbor in Florence, Alabama when this photograph was taken.
In this photograph you are looking down from the poop deck onto the starboard (right) side of the main deck.
Pinta has three sails with the main sail being the middle sail. All of those ropes and pulleys in the picture are the rigging for the main sail.
These two reproduction ships sail to ports in 30-40 different locations around the United States. The ships travel the Gulf Coast, the East Coast, the Great Lakes, and the Midwestern River System. Pinta can be chartered for private parties.
You can tour these ships and even volunteer as a crew member. Their schedule is posted on their web site.
