Description
Purple Queen Pollination by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 297 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
I was taking photographs of a Spiderwort bloom (Tradescantia pallida) called Purple Queen (also called purple-heart), when a wasp flew in to gather pollen from the flower. I snapped several shots before he flew off and I turned my attention back to taking plant pictures.
After viewing this image on my computer I became curious about the pattern on this wasp's body. I must have looked at hundreds of images online and read countless articles describing how to identify a wasp but came up without learning the name of this particular wasp.
I do know, however, that this insect is definitely a pollinator after observing him and seeing the pollen on his head.
