Description
Storm Clouds With Crepuscular Rays by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image for Week One of the 52 Week Art Challenge (The World Outside).
This photograph was taken at sunset while ominous storm clouds were forming in all directions. The sun was just below the horizon and it's rays were shining through openings and edges of those storm clouds.
You can see a single tall tree towering over many overs and they are all silhouetted against the darkening evening sky.
Several shades of pink, yellow, blue and white cover the scene with the pink shades dominating the image.
Crepuscular comes from the Latin word crepusculum, meaning "twilight". However, the term crepuscular rays are also very often used when clouds pass over the sun during the day producing shafts of sunbeams radiating outward from the cloud.
