Description
Pulley At The Apex by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 290 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
This image shows the top of a lattice-boom on a crane. There are pulleys at the very top of the boom as well as one several feet down from the top. There is also a hook under a round, metal weight.
The pulleys and hook are attached to cables. All of this equipment makes it possible for the crane to lift and position heavy objects at a construction site.
This particular crane was being used when the bridge over the Bay of Saint Louis along the Mississippi Gulf Coast (USA) was being replaced. The original draw bridge had been destroyed by Hurricane Katrina a year before this photograph was taken and a taller bridge was being designed and built, eliminating the need for a draw opening.
