Description
Cherries In A Pewter Bowl by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 3 of the 3 day challenge (Theme: Fruit In A Bowl).
This image shows dark red cherries displayed in a pewter bowl. A few more berries lay on a white plate alongside the metal bowl. Notice that the cherries on the plate still have the stems attached.
Cherries are a type of stone fruit (stone being the "pit" inside the fruit). They are grown commercially as sweet cherries, sour cherries and the less known dukes which are a cross between sweet and sour.
Some varieties are grown for the value of their wood in furniture making.
All cherry trees need cold weather to produce flowers. They flower a little sooner in the season than apple trees.
The fruit itself is very nutritious. Fiber, vitamin C, potassium, copper, magnesium, vitamin K, a few B vitamins and manganese are all contained in the flesh of the cherry. They also contain many anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Wonderful still life with cherries! The closeup on the fruits in the foreground is superb - I fill like I can take one :)
