Description
Pups by Kathy K. McClellan is an image created for Day 82 of the Journal 2022 Challenge.
My journal entries for March make up a series titled "From Letters to Words" using the letters that were created for the February entries.
Today, March 23, is National Puppy Day, established in 2006. Today is a day to celebrate puppies and the love and joy they bring into our lives, and to bring awareness of adopting orphaned pups from shelters.
A few facts for Puppy Day:
(1) Puppies are not considered adult dogs until the age of 1.
(2) Puppies sleep between 15-20 hours per day.
(3) There are approximately 10,000 puppy mills in the U.S.
(4) The estimated number of puppies produced by USDA licensed facilities every year is 1,011,046.
Now that is a lot of puppies and doesn't count the ones produced by illegal backyard breeders or family pets that are allowed to breed.
If you have a puppy you can celebrate today by loving on your pup a little more or giving your puppy a special treat today.
If you don't have a puppy of your own you can celebrate today by visiting a pet shop or your local shelter and giving puppies there some extra attention. Volunteering at the shelter or donating food, money or other needed items would also be a great way to celebrate National Puppy Day.
If you want to get a puppy of your own please adopt from your local shelter or rescue organization. And if you are not sure you really want a puppy you can foster one on a short term basis. Shelters and Rescues are always in need of foster homes for orphaned puppies.
100% of the artist's markup will be donated to Chloe's Fund, which provides life saving treatments and surgeries for shelter animals in the Florence/Lauderdale County, Alabama area.
