Description
Live Oak Number 153 is a photograph of a Live Oak on St. Simons Island, GA (USA).
I am not a stranger to southern cities with Live Oak Trees, but I never remember seeing so many in one area as on St. Simons Island. Many of them have tags with numbers and you can look them up online (www.treesglynn.org) for a few historical facts.
I photographed this one growing along the Frederica River on Gascoigne Bluff (Gascoigne Park) in one of many entire groves of Live Oaks on the island. It has a girth of over 20' and is approximately 230 years old.
Spanish moss hangs off the trees branches like warm weather icicles. Unlike icicles, however, the moss sways with the coastal breezes displaying it's flexible lengths of stems.
Standing among this grove of Live Oaks is an experience of nature at it's finest.
