Description
Winter Drive-In by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic collage created for Day 221 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
The photographs in this collage were taken from an adjacent road and a portion of the entrance drive of the now closed outdoor theater.
The Winter Drive-In, in Wintersville, Ohio (USA), opened for business with one screen in August 1969. At the time of it's closing in June 2021, it had four screens, three of them digital.
The original screen was the largest outdoor theater screen in the state of Ohio at 120 feet wide. The drive-in's lot could hold 1,000 cars.
Flea markets, car shows and seasonal specials were held at the location as fund raisers or as a way of giving back to the community. One example was their trunk-or-treat events where prizes were awarded to the best decorated vehicle as well as costumes.
The 16+ acres that made up the drive-in were sold in 2021 for non theater purposes.
