Description
Millen Methodist Church Front View is a photograph taken by Kathy K. McClellan showing the front facade of the United Methodist Church in Millen, Georgia USA. Processing and uploading was done for Day One of the Five Day Architecture Challenge.
In 1906 land and plans were given for a Gothic structure but the plans were never completed. The structure that was eventually built appears to mix Classical architecture with the more modern Richardsonian Romanesque style.
Construction started on this beautiful structure in 1909 and was completed in 1910. In November of 1954 construction began on an educational wing. The new structure was added on to the original building with long semi-enclosed corridors and surrounded a rectangular courtyard behind the original church. The new wing included a chapel, parlor with a small kitchen, social hall, kitchen, 14 classrooms and 3 restrooms.
Several architectural features were contained in the new building allowing the new to blend with the old.
